Why you Should Take a Staycation at Legacy Lodge

If you’re in Atlanta and want to get away, that doesn’t always mean you have to leave town. You can enjoy a nice weekend, just a short drive away at Legacy Lodge on Lake Lanier Islands. But with all the great places that are in a short driving distance from Atlanta, you’re probably wondering, why Legacy Lodge. We had the pleasure of a little weekend getaway at Legacy Lodge, so I’m here today to tell you why you should have a staycation here.

I had a complimentary stay at Legacy Lodge to facilitate a review. As always, my opinions are my own

Get away without being away

Like mentioned above, sometimes you want to get away, but perhaps you don’t have the time to be away for a period of time. A lot of us have to resort to our weekends to have some fun, relax and spend time with family and friends. What’s more perfect than a staycation that’s less than an hour from your home? This is one reason that I think Legacy Lodge is worthy of being noted as one of Atlanta’s getaway staycation locations. It feels like you are in another world, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, (or suburb 😉 ), but you could totally run home to grab that item you forgot (don’t we always forget something??) , and be back in a flash.

Kid Friendly

Legacy Lodge is one of the most kid friendly hotels that I’ve been to, you can’t tell from the naked eye though. They offer an array of activities that are fun for the whole family. We got to watch High School Musical, they even provide popcorn. For other kid-friendly activities at the resort, they offer crafts, family game night and even offer Kid’s Night Out, just in case you want a few hours with your better half (Kid’s Night Out is an additional cost). Now, you may not have time to get to any of those activities, there is a lot to do on Lake Lanier Island, but, how great is it to have the options to do these various activities? There is something for everyone, and for any weather that may arise.

Salt Water Pool

I feel like the salt water pool needs to be mentioned. The pool allows for guest to use it throughout the year, and is less harsh than a traditional chlorine pool. Don’t worry about being a towel down to the pool, the lodge offers use of towel that are right there at the pool. It is a gorgeous view from the deck of the pool, and they  have a fire pit adjacent to the deck as well. You can also grab a bite to eat  or a drink while you are out here at Bullfrogs Bar & Grill, with seating right on the deck (as well as indoor seating).

Updated Rooms

in 2016 Legacy Lodge underwent a $2 million renovation, which included 214 of the rooms. Now, the rooms feature hardwood floors, updated decor and new appliances (coffee maker and mini fridge). The room evokes a very modern woodsy feel, and every room has a great view of the property via it’s balcony. You can throw a Keurig coffee pod on, and sit out on the balcony in the morning.

The bathroom is equally as nice. Legacy Lodge is one of the only hotel that I know that has an exhaust fan in their bathrooms. I know that’s an odd thing to point out, but really, I hate when your bathroom steams up to the point that you can’t even dry off properly. So having an exhaust fan in the bathroom is a plus of me. The bathtub is spacious for a hotel bathroom, nice marble counter tops and beautiful tiles tub/shower combo. The water pressure was great as well. Adjacent to the bathroom is a closet. You’ll also have complimentary soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner and lotion.

We stayed in a double queen room and slept very comfortably. It ended up being just my son and I so we got to each spread out in our own bed.  I am avid for checking under the sheets and even under the bed for cleanliness. I found the room to be very clean.

The ONLY issue that I could say that I had is that the doors to the rooms closed hard. This can get annoying for a light sleeper, as guests are coming in and out of rooms throughout the night. I recall hearing about 4-5 doors that woke me up. So, you may want to travel with some earplugs if you are a light sleeper like me. My son on the other hand sleeps like a log and didn’t wake up for anything.

Minutes from LanierWorld

What is the point of heading to the lake if you’re not going to have some lakeside fun? If you’re not already planning on spending the day on the lake, then LanierWorld is the place to be. What lies in LanierWorld is, fun, fun, and fun. Waterslides, a wave pool, ziplining, are just a few things you can enjoy here, in addition to relaxing by the lake in the sand, all the while watching a 5-story screen. You can totally spend the day here, and literally there is something for everyone.

Besides being minutes from LanierWorld, there are some many other things you can do on the lake or around the lake for that matter. Rent a boat and spend a day on the lake. Hike around the property, zipline, spa and golfing are just a few activities you can do at Lake Lanier. But what’s great about Legacy Lodge, if you don’t want to do any of those things, you don’t have to. There is so much to do within the lodge alone that it can keep you busy for a day.

Amenities and Dining

I’ve already noted that Legacy Lodge has the amazing salt water pool with Bullfrogs Bar & Grill that has access to the pool’s deck. This isn’t the only amenities that Legacy Lodge has to offer. The lodge is also equipped with a business center and great gym with a window panning one side of the room looking out to nature and the lake.

The also offer room-in dining at an extra charge. For breakfast and dinner you can enjoy a nice meal at Sidney’s, another restaurant located directly inside Legacy Lodge. If traveling with family, you can want to grab a bite at Bullfrogs Bar & Grill, it’s less expensive than Sidney’s and they offer a children’s menu. If you’re feeling like a snack, you can grab something from the Butler’s Pantry, located right next to Sidney’s. You can check out more information on dining options HERE. They even offer a dining package.

Sidney’s

We only ate at one of the restaurants within Legacy Lodge, and that was Sunday morning breakfast at Sidney’s. It’s a buffet style breakfast with an array of choices. There is something for anyone here. I’m currently not eating a lot carbs and added sugars, so that dwindles down my options quite a lot. Luckily I was able to get a small bowl of oatmeal, and a great plate of fruit to satisfy my hunger.

Since we are not meat eaters, my son got a plate of fruit as well and a generous size waffle, which he devoured. The waffle bar had an assortment of toppings to choose from, so you can definitely make it your own.  Sidney’s also offers made to order omelets. If those don’t seem fit for you, they have a lot more options to choose from. Several selections of breakfast meats, potatoes, grits, scrambled eggs and baked goods.

As noted, it is buffet style, so you can eat til your hearts desire. I would recommend adding the buffet breakfast to your stay, it was delicious, great view and right inside of the hotel.

Golf Carts Rental

We were fortunate enough to have access to a golf cart during our stay at Legacy Lodge. We had fun making our way around the property in the golf cart. It was simple to just jump right in and head back to the lodge when we needed something while we were having a blast at LanierWorld. It was my first time driving a golf cart, and a little rocky at first. However, once the day went on, I was pro! 😉 The carts have a screen with a map of the property on it, so you can be aware where you are at all times. If you would like to rent a golf cart during your stay at Legacy Lodge, you can go HERE to do so.
