Why do I always do this? It’s happened twice now. I’ve gone to Stone Mountain Park in the afternoon thinking I could do the activities from the moment I get there until the Laser show begins.

I received tickets to facilitate a review, as always, my opinions are my own.

Never happens. How can you fit everything at Stone Mountain Park in an afternoon? You can’t. But that doesn’t mean that you aren’t going to have fun! My friend, her two nieces and I went and had a blast! And come to think of it, I’ve been there several times, but every time I go it’s a different experience. You may think they have a lot of the same activities, but they’re not always the same, altered in a way to make your visit unique from season-to-season or year-to-year.

This visit was my first time experiencing Ride the Ducks. It was so cute, great view and just simply beautiful! We had a great captain, she told us a little history of Stone Mountain on our way to the lake, she was funny and kept us entertained. At the moment she is the only female captain.Ā I loved that the captain allowed the kids to steer the boat. My friend’s niece really enjoyed it.

They give you these awesome duck whistles before you board, the captain will play a variety of music during the course of Ride the Duck where you can mimic the music with duck noises. Heads up if your kids get one, you may want to “lose” it before getting in the car. šŸ˜‰

Oh, and when out on the water, you’ll see this structure in the picture below. I had no clue what is was. It’s called the Carillon, a 732 bell that is played by a little 90-year-old woman several times throughout the day. We were lucky enough to hear it in action during our ride.

So if you don’t know, Stone Mountain has a new attraction this year. Dinosaur Explore is here in 2017 only. We didn’t make it thru the whole exhibit, but we decided to pass our time while we were waiting for our Ride the Duck tour at the Big Barn, which has been transformed into a Dinotorium, which allows you to have to same fun as before.

The little ladies have never been to Stone Mountain, so of course if there is anything you must do when visiting it is heading up to the top. The most heart healthy way to get up is hiking, but the easiest and quickest way is via the SkyRide.

It doesn’t feel right unless you take a jump photo on top of the mountain.

And the view is never-ending gorgeous.

Since time was getting ahead of us, we decided to head back down to catch the 4-D movie before we got in our seats for the Laser Show. The 4-D movie changes, so this was my first time seeing the present movie, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. It was very funny (I mean, what else do you expect?). The movie is only about 15 minutes long and another great way to beat the summer heat.

Our had reserved seats that we could get to as early as 730 PM, so we were there around that time. Good to get there at that time, claim your seats, but not necessary to stay there for almost 2 hours before the show actually starts. If you’re going to stay close, I suggest bring a ball or Frisbee to throw around.

We had amazing seats in the Georgia Terrace, literally in the front.

Perfect right??

We waited for the show to begin.

and waited.

and waited. and then it started raining, sprinkling actually. Then it got harder, so we went under a tree as we didn’t come prepared.

But it rained harder. We stayed about another 40 minutes and the show hadn’t started yet, so instead of trying to catch the show in rain, and then having to race to the car we decided to head to the car and call it a night, unfortunately. I’m actually not sure what they do in a situation like that, meaning when the weather doesn’t act accordingly. But let that be a lesson to you from me, always check the weather!! I’m really disappointed that we missed it, it looks like an amazing shoe this year. But the show itself is free to watch, you just have to pay for parking, which is way better to get the yearly pass than to pay each single visit.

Final thought: I totally love going to Stone Mountain Park. Even going in the late afternoon we had a blast for the few hours that we were there. Spending a day would totally be worth your while, and the beauty of Stone Mountain Park is that there are so many options of things to do. You can spend money on parking only or go all in and get an adventure pass, whatever fits your budget, you’ll have fun.
